Bordeaux is a magnificent city, when approached from the south along the River. It's big, with a population of over half a million, and obviously rich - as it was the Romans established a busy retail store here, though it still works today, the regional center of transportation of Aquitaine. Visit a few wineries in Bordeaux is a must, because this is what the region is famous. One of the most famous producers of wine, Chateau Mouton Rothschild, where you can visit the vineyards, learn about winemaking and taste the finished product. The annual festival of wine in Bordeaux is the end of June and will make a large number of visitors.
